Music Video Research!

 Our group is doing the song Best Day Of My Life. The genre of this song is pop rock. The band American Authors wrote this song, and they tend to do more pop rock and indie alternative songs. 


  • We notice tracking shots in many pop music videos, allowing the viewer to follow alongside the main actors

  • In the Best Day Of My Life music video, there are lots of close up shots to show the actors happiness and other emotions

  • Jump cuts are used to switch between two different scenes depending on what the lyrics are saying

  • They wear elaborate costumes, usually fit to follow along with the story being portrayed in the video. 

  • During sadder or more dull moments the video uses dim lighting and the actors have low energy

  • In the happier moments we can see sunlight and brighter colors, along with visible happiness in the actors as well.

  • Out of all of the videos we watched, all of the videos told the story pertaining to the lyrics

  • In pop videos, the actors are usually dancing. The dances can be choreographed or sometimes it appears that they are improvising

  • The music videos are filmed by a handheld camera in multiple shots, the slight shake or movement adds to the humanizing feeling they accomplish with their songs

  The movie  Us  (2019)   is a thriller/horror movie. This means it has conventions common for both of those genres. However, I will be focusing on the thriller genre.  Camera Angles, Movement, and shots: There were lots of long shots in this movie. They were used to set the scene and to create tension by showing the character and the setting. There were also close ups to show the terrified looks on the actors faces. This created a thrill for the audience. Two shots were also common, usually between the protagonist and antagonist fighting.  Costumes: The "bad guys" wore distinct red suits to separate themselves from the other characters. The "good guys" wore normal day clothes such as jeans and t-shirts. Lighting: This movie had low lighting, which helped to create a scary mood.  My name is Siena Pancera, I am still 15 years old. I live in Fort Lauderdale, and still take AICE Media studies. I am a different student since our first project. When I first joined this class, I was nervous. I was unsure of if I could succeed. I also knew little to nothing about the subject. Now, I've learned so many new things about what this class can offer. I understand the concepts I am taught, and enjoy them. I've also grown in how I work on different activities in this class. After completing our first two tasks, the commercial and music video, I've learned how to be the best group mate I can. Like understanding how to help others in my group to the best of my abilities. I also know more about my individual responsibilities. Such as filming or editing. Even acting. I understand that I am definitely more comfortable behind the camera.   We are researching  the movie  She Dies Tomorrow  (2020) using the website  www.artofthetitle.com How Many Titles are displayed during the opening sequences to the film? Which Ones There are 25 titles shown in this sequence. These  include, the title, the writer and director, main actors names, producers, co-producer, photographers, editors, production designers, music artists, production manager, first and second assistant directors, art director, camera operators, design team roles, hair and makeup, sound editors, title designer, songs, and special thanks.  What connotations do the images carry? The images carry almost no connotation, against a black screen they are bold and in stark font. They show mystery by not revealing much.
