The movie Us (2019) is a thriller/horror movie. This means it has conventions common for both of those genres. However, I will be focusing on the thriller genre. Camera Angles, Movement, and shots: There were lots of long shots in this movie. They were used to set the scene and to create tension by showing the character and the setting. There were also close ups to show the terrified looks on the actors faces. This created a thrill for the audience. Two shots were also common, usually between the protagonist and antagonist fighting. Costumes: The "bad guys" wore distinct red suits to separate themselves from the other characters. The "good guys" wore normal day clothes such as jeans and t-shirts. Lighting: This movie had low lighting, which helped to create a scary mood. There was often flickering lights which created suspense, and sometimes there would be no light at all. Makeup: There was no extreme makeup in this movie. But like many thrille...
We have not accomplished much filming so far. My group-mates and I all met up this past weekend to begin. Since half of our scenes take place in a city, we decided to film downtown. It has the most buildings and is usually a little busy, so it was a perfect spot. We all met up at Dara's house because she lives very close to where we needed to be. Our goal was to film the scenes where our two main characters are talking at their table and the other scene where they are walking away. We also hadn't really planned for quite how many people would be downtown on a weekend. Because it is spring break for so many colleges, there were practically twice as many people as usual. This made tracking shots really difficult. We couldn't walk in a straight path to film. We had to switch locations multiple times. That part was ver...
We have researched three main types of genres for this movie. Before our research, we had already had an idea of which genre we would choose. We had sort of picked out drama as an ideal genre. However, after extensive research, we as a group have changed our minds. Instead of choosing the drama genre, we think our two minute scene would be better suited in the thriller genre. While there were drawbacks to this genre, such as it usually involving gore, we decided that we can find a way around that. And although the stereotypes generally portrayed in this genre for women are not positive, we are the directors and are in charge. We can change the story line to make those stereotypes non-existent. Also, there are many appealing things to this genre. Our whole group wanted to have an exciting plot. Through the use of a thriller genre, this is possible. Also, the music in thriller genre is generally pretty uniform. In most thrillers, there is scary classical music with high pitched sounds,...
